Simpsons was a very funny place to be on Wednesday 11th August - litrerally ! The Maternity and Neo Natal unit in the hospital were paid a visit by a special guest - Nancy Cartwright, who voices Bart Simpson and others in the long running cartoon series "The Simpsons".
In Edinburgh for her show at the Edinburgh Festival, Nancy dropped in to the hospital. Our Secretary, Gill, who works in the unit, tells us more .....
"Nancy Cartwright visited the Simpson Centre for Reproductive Health today (11 August 2004) and made time for Simpsons Special Care Babies.
Her visit started with a talk about her career and The Simpsons place in it, and made it very special, with voice-overs from The Simpsons Bart, Nelson, Ralph and Maggie. Chuckie from the Rugrats also came and went. She said she had done “tons of voice-overs” during her 20 year career and liked the Simpsons the BEST. One perhaps unexpected (on her part) question to her came from one of the Simpson Nursery Nurses: “Was Bart breast fed?”, answer “ We haven’t done that episode yet”!
She spent a short time in the Neonatal Unit and met a family with their baby in ITU.
To help us celebrate our 20th anniversary in 2005 she has signed 2 t-shirts, one child size and one for adults. A photo of Nancy and Bart (in his SSCB t-shirt) is in the camera and soon to be printed and posted here on the website. We gifted several items of SSCB merchandise to Nancy in celebration of her kindness and visit.
It was a memorable day."
Thanks for the words, Gill, and we now have the photo, below. And of course a HUGE thank you to Nancy for the signed t-shirts. Watch this space for news on them !!!

Nancy is pictured holding Bart, alongside Julia Holmes,
Operational Manager at the Simpson Centre for Reproductive
Health. They are pictured under a portrait of their namesake -
Sir James Young Simpson.
Update !
We have now been given a series of pictures which were taken at the event. Many thanks to Eddie Truman for allowing us to use these.
