Alex & Sonny

My babies arrived late July 2015, 27 weeks + 5 days. My girl Alex and my boy Sonny, both were so small and fragile.

Sonny took ill with bacterial meningitis at a week and half and we were told to prepare ourselves for the worst while Alex was keeping well and looking to get moved from intensive care to high dependency.

A couple of days later Sonny seemed to be reacting well to antibiotics but still touch and go. Early August 2015 I had a phone call to come into the unit ASAP, expecting to hear it was Sonny. I was shocked that they told me Alex was not good. When I got there, there were lots of doctors around her, working on her, I couldn’t believe my eyes, she had taken ill overnight and there was nothing more that they could do.

I got to spend time with her, bath and dress her; even for a couple of days after I could be with her. In those couple of days Sonny had been making an amazing recovery, I tell everyone his sister had jumped in beside him as I still don’t know how he survived.

He is now 3 and just started nursery. I could not thank the doctors, nurses and everyone at Simpsons enough.
